During the visit, Shivakumar became upset after business activity at the harbour was paused for his security. He ordered an immediate inquiry and vowed action against any officials found responsible for disrupting business operations.
The visit came after a state Cabinet meeting approved coastal upgrades covering fisheries infrastructure, roads and ports, along with the 200-metre 'Mangaluru Eye' tower. The projects are aimed at supporting tourism and creating jobs.
Shivakumar also highlighted the importance of the sea to local families and economies, stressing the need for broader support for the blue economy.
The early visit brought the functioning of the fishing harbour and the concerns of fishermen and traders into focus, alongside the state's plans for coastal infrastructure, tourism and employment.
